The Secret
Sometimes I ponder, to fair extent,
The secret under life’s intent
Most people say it’s to be content,
Happiness without lament
I think they're in search of a feeling,
An emotion deemed appealing
Worth committing life to revealing,
A gem they’ve been concealing
As I contemplate this and reflect,
Such pursual seems incorrect
Happiness is not the right object,
Really, it’s just an effect
Better to seek purpose in sighting,
A shining goal that’s exciting
It's the chance of a dream igniting,
That makes life truly inviting
So on days when you’ve lost elation,
Work on despite the sensation
As despair of your own creation,
Will never last the duration
Stay true to the target in the gray,
Endeavour at it, day by day
If you reach it, you’ll be, I daresay,
Happy to give it away
