In years gone by, far to the north, I heard a voice from the sea Soothing and stirring my heart it whispered, “You can stay here with me” Yet caught in a dream I turned away, To seek life long and free
Many months after I ventured south, I heard the voice from the sea Baffling and battering my mind it beckoned, “Time to come back to me” Still lost in my vision I kept to the path, To seek life long and free
A year crept past as I wandered east, And still the voice from the sea Tested and twisted my will as it pleaded, “Please, return to me” But steeling myself I carried on forth, To seek life long and free
The years ran by as I roamed the west, Oh! How that voice from the sea Ripped and rended my soul as it begged, “Please, please come back to me” Blind to my senses I stumbled ahead, To seek life long and free
Many lives later, I write here to say, I’ve lost that voice from the sea Like vanishing foam in the azure waves, It released my life to me Yet I still lament the calling I lost, In seeking life long and free
